Rockford Diaries Week 14: Hola me llamo es Hermana Hunsaker - December 8th, 2014

Mis Queridos,

Well this week started with Hermana Hunsaker and I finding out just how unified we are as a companionship....when we were knocking doors......I was talking to the lady that answered and I said, "Hola me llamo es Hermana Hunsaker" (Hi my name is Sister Hunsaker).......if you know me, you know that's clearly not my name.....(if you don't know that, please stop reading this email). The best part is I had zero idea I didn't introduce myself correctly until Hermana Hunsaker went to introduce herself and she said (in Spanish of course) that actually her name was Hermana Hunsaker and my name was Hermana Simmons. She said I just looked at her with a face that was like 'hello I just told them that'. I was just like wait what? So then I leaned over and asked her in English if I had introduced myself incorrectly and she was like....yeah you told them my name.... So that was awkward. I have never done that before. But it was pretty hilarious. We are still laughing about it.

Anyway, in other news, well there isn't really much other news. This week was pretty slow missionary work wise. We're tracting out the elect. Turns out they're not home.

But I love the churches new initiative "He is the Gift". I hope you have all seen the video, whether you're members of our church or not, it is a video to help us remember the true meaning of Christmas and your heart will be warmed. It is a season changing video. So if you haven't watched it yet, stop reading and go watch it (www.christmas.mormon.org). Every time I watch that video I am so filled with love for Our Savior Jesus Christ. I have a desire to serve him and become a better disciple. This month I have decided to study a different topic about Jesus Christ every week, so that my personal relationship with Jesus Christ grows and is deepened. This week I am studying more about His sacrifices for us, and how to apply them more fully into my life. Please share this video with others, especially those that need some extra light in their lives. Because the light of Christ drowns out the noisiness and business of this time of year. I know some of you have received pass along cards in your ensigns, I challenge you to hand them out. It's a simple way to share the love of Christ, the gift of Christ, with those who need to be reminded and lighted this time of year. So DO IT! :)

We had zone conference this week. Here are a few thoughts:
The Savior not only died for us, but He lived for us. Are we willing to live for Him?
Be Positive-this is what allowing virtue to garnish out thoughts means, not allowing Satan to influence your thoughts, distract from our faith or sidetrack you in anyway.
Believe. Never Waver.
The experiences in your life have been designed personally for you in order to complete you in this life.
The Atonement compensates for all that life makes wrong

Also I just want to take a second to write about how much I love my companion Hermana Hunsaker. She is awesome and I have grown so much being with her. We have the best conversations and she is just a great person and I want to be more like her. That's what I learned this week. She is always building me up and just being great. I will be sad to leave her, because she is training me, I'm not doing anything.

Anyway, I just want to let you all know once again, that I love being a missionary. I love Jesus Christ, and how close I have come to him in this past year. I want to be like Him. His love fills me and motivates me. It heals and succors the aches and pains, physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental. He lives and He loves! I feel Him close in my life. I know He is in the details. I don't know at all how it works, how a belief and a faith can fill my soul and cause me to rejoice so much, but it really does. I know that Jesus Christ knows each of you by name. I know that our Heavenly Father sent His Beloved Son Jesus Christ for each one of us. I know that the pains and sorrows He suffered on our behalf were so that He could set the conditions on which we receive exaltation. He doesn't save us IN our sins. But He has provided the way for us to become clean and exercise our faith, to have the guilt and sorrows, and regrets washed away, and to rely fully on His grace after we have done all He asks of us. Salvation is not cheap. He did not suffer and atone for us so we can sit around and do whatever we want and then just die and go to heaven. We MUST live the commandments that He has given us. Every single one, even the ones that the world doesn't like, even the ones that aren't easy. Because it wasn't easy for Jesus Christ our Savior, why would we think it would be completely easy for us? So work hard. Do your best. Be your best. Reach your potential and fill your soul by living according to the will of God. There simply is no other path, even when the path is harder than we would like. Get on the path, either for the first or for the second, third, tenth, or hundredth time, and then STAY ON THE PATH. Not with one foot, but with both feet, heart and soul and don't let go. He is the path. Hold on and fight the good fight.

Los Quiero demasiado mucho.
Hermana Simmons
